A History Marked by Service
St. James’ Episcopal Church was officially established as a mission in December of 1948 by its 13 founding members. The land for the new church on Oak Ridge Drive was purchased in March of 1949, and the first service was held in the new parish hall on Christmas Eve 1949, the year the new building was consecrated. A rectory facing Oak Ridge was completed in June 1951, and the new Fowler Hall was completed the following year. The current church building was completed in June 1956 and can hold over 400 worshippers.
Duncan Gray Sr. Hall, the main educational wing, was completed in 1958. Duncan Gray Jr. Hall was built in the 1980’s, with expanded administrative space. A renovated and expanded Fowler Hall was completed in 2009 with a formal Parish Hall, Guild Parlor, kitchen and office areas. A roofed porch looks out on a furnished playground and backyard space with artificial turf. A front yard Labyrinth and garden was completed in 2015.
