September 24: SWEET BABY JAMES
Our early choir offers a “Secret o’ Life” evensong with music by James Taylor and poetry by Ron Rash. An alternative evening liturgy with prayers from Lifting Women’s Voices.
October 1: THE KING SHALL REJOICE – CHARLES II AT WESTMINSTER
Our 11:05 choir presents our “First Sundays at Five” Rite I Evensong with music with strings by Henry Purcell (1659-1695). In recital following, the MSO String Quartet presents a “Classical” quartet; will it be Haydn, Mozart, or Beethoven?
November 5: ALL SOULS’ EVENSONG
Our choirs join to celebrate the Solemnity of All Souls’ with anthems cherished (Bainton’s “And I Saw a New Heaven” and Harris’ “Bring Us, O Lord”) and contemporary, including the Jackson premieres of Bennett’s “One Equal Music” and Hawes’ “Quanta qualia,” with alto saxophone. Our necrology is read in memory of “all those whom we love but see no longer.”
March 4: KING CHARLES I AT THIS PRAYERS
Our 11:05 choir offers Lenten music by the last of the great Tudor-Stuart composers, Thomas Tomkins (1572-1656), including the sublime, anguished “When David Heard.” In recital following, Dr. Rachel Heard plays selections on her fortepiano.
April 22: WONDER OF WONDERS
